A lacquer-loving guide to the shades keeping us Cali-Cool this summer.
We’re California Dreaming this summer, cruising the quintessential coastline that connects SoCal and NorCal alongside celebrity nail artist Steph Stone.
An authority on all things nails, Steph has worked with brands and beauties from Chanel and Violet Grey to Miley Cyrus, Alessandra Ambrosio and Chiara Ferragni, to name a few. She’s even painted paws for the pages of Harper’s Bazaar, Paper, and Cosmopolitan magazines!
It’s rare that it should rain in L.A., even rarer that our busy team could coordinate a road trip with the sought-after Steph Stone. On the early morning we set to leave, both were the case.
GPS I Love You
Steph “looks for inspiration in things that are not typically fashion or beauty related: nature, textures, patterns...” So, we hit the road to explore the destinations (and detours) inspiring our summer shades.
From sweet sunsets to hazy coastal mornings, we’re about to bring you along front seat for the ride! If you ever get lost, remember, GPS (We) Love you.
From the fashion district to the film industry, Los Angeles is the land of creativity and culture. Abundant with transplants and immigrants, the City of Angels is anything but a homogenous hub. Customs collide to create this sprawling urban stretch of delicious delicacies and endless opportunity.
Naturally, we started in Hollywood, the home of OPI. From wanna-be starlets to world renown superstars, it is also the home of Me, Myselfie & I.
Excuse Me, Big Sur, why today?! We improvised our itinerary, rerouting north. Curious what a city synonymous with snow sports had to offer in summertime, our next stop was Big Sur.
Driving out from the drizzle, we emerged into a picturesque scene of blue skies and beaming sunshine. People hiked, families picnicked and dogs played fetch, all while surrounded by beautiful vistas and the blooming meadows of Los Padres National Forest.
Just up the Monterey peninsula sits an underrated town called Carmel-by-the-Sea. The very cool Carmel is known for its booming art industry and romantic ambience, ranked by Travel + Leisure as the number 3 most romantic city in the world in 2014.
We set on to enjoy that Sweet Carmel Sunday, wining, dining and appreciating its aesthetics. From unbelievable ocean views to charming cottages, inviting galleries and unique boutiques, everywhere we looked we saw works of art.
We were Feeling Frisco after all this nature and nurture. We hopped back on our mani-motorcade, hurrying to make San Fran by sundown. Steph prepped for our photoshoot on the fly, painting nails in a moving car!
From classic counterculture to contemporary Silicon Valley, the city of San Francisco has a soft spot in our hearts. We made it to the Golden Gate Bridge as the saturated orange sunset reflected off the shining steel structure. Despite our schedule, we sat to watch every last second of that sunset, even after finishing our photos.
If you think a few manicure-mavens are too girly to enjoy some time in the woods, you’re Barking Up The Wrong Sequoia.
Traveling back, we stopped at the Giant Redwood Trees. Looking up towards the 350-foot high forest, cotton-candy skies glimmered between the ends of branches as they disappeared into the distance above us. We couldn’t help but think, “What a view!”
Bon voyage au beach! Cue The Mamas and Papas, we were ready to be safe and warm in L.A. We finally got to give into Malibu Pier Pressure, heading back to our intended first stop.
As we drove through Malibu’s winding mountain roads, passed secluded sands and stunning residential architecture, our collection came alive around us. The skies gradient glowed from deep merlot, rich red and colorful coral to peach, perfect pinks and naturally iridescent nudes.
A seaside escape a bit more boisterous, we headed to show off some Santa Monica Beach Peach, maybe even Instagram it. The pier is a place of fun in the sun with its iconic Ferris wheel, boozy beach bars and hundreds of daily visitors.
Having rained in the days before, we sat on a clear and cloudless afternoon surrounded by surfers and Santa Monica beach babes. Yet again, we set our sight on another beautifully luminous sunset.
To The Mouse House We Go! Our next stop was in Anaheim, Walt Disney’s original Disneyland theme park. It was there our friend Mickey taught us, “If you dream it, you can do it.” That’s just what we did, dreaming up a red hot, Mickey-inspired, shade of red.
Despite the stress of revising our schedule, we sat back to discuss just how breathtaking our road trip had been. From California’s natural scenery to its bustling cities and busy beaches, we’re sure this collection has captured the sunshine.
