Celebrate Pride Month With Some of OPI’s Fave influencers from the LGBTQIA+ Community
  • Celebrate Pride Month With Some of OPI’s Fave influencers from the LGBTQIA+ Community

This month we’re celebrating Pride with the launch of the #OPIPowerOfHue summer nail polish collection and our partnership with The Trevor Project. In celebration and support of the Pride community, OPI is working with a handful of LGBTQIA+ influencers to share their empowering stories. We are honored to kick off this blog post series with Lunden Stallings and Olivia Bennett. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Lunden and Olivia share snippets of their love story on TikTok, including their recent engagement! They also share content featuring their dogs, #OOTDs, favorite products, and more. We got the chance to talk with them and hear about how they advocate for and inspire their community. Check back here or @opi on Instagram for our next LGBTQIA+ influencer spotlight.

    1. @lundenrose and @oliviamccollumben

OPI: Firstly, a big congratulations to you both! What a beautiful engagement! Let’s jump right in. What role do you think YOU can play in creating a safe environment for others to be their authentic self?

L & O: We have created a safe place on our social media platforms to be a voice for the scared, confused, or simply those who just need a friend to understand. We both at one time needed that person when we were younger, so it's very special getting to be that for someone else. We don't take our platform lightly and welcome anyone who is struggling, wants to share their good news, or needs advice. We want everyone to know that you will get through it and that you are deserving of ALL the love!

OPI: That’s beautiful; what an accomplishment! Can you share an example of how you have advocated for the LGBTQIA+ community?

L & O: Educating and motivating are two examples of how we actively advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community. We use our platform to be a voice for those that feel like they aren't heard. By joining OPI to help raise awareness of The Trevor Project’s mission to support LGBTQ youth, we are hoping to encourage our audience to educate themselves and take a stand for individuals that don't feel seen. This is something that is VERY important to us and what we are passionate about. We will always be a voice and an advocate for our community!

    2. @lundenrose and @oliviamccollumben

OPI: That is so inspiring. Can you share with us anyone you know or follow who should be noticed for making an impactful change and tell us why? We’d love to spotlight them!

L & O: Lunden's sister Remington has impacted both our lives! When Lunden was younger and came out to her family Remington had to take time to understand. Which we know many people can relate to! It was hard being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community in the South, but Remington paved the way for others to learn to find compassion and patience to accept those in our community. She is the epitome of a supportive big sister and loves Lunden unconditionally and will stand by her on our wedding day!

Thank you, Lunden and Olivia! Make sure to follow @lundenrose and @oliviamccollumben on TikTok for more inspiration.

    3. Introducing Kenneth Pabon

We are continuing to celebrate Pride with the launch of the #OPIPowerOfHue summer nail polish collection and our partnership with The Trevor Project. This week, we have the privilege of spotlighting another LGBTQIA+ influencer and empowering voice in the community, Kenneth Pabon.

NYC-based Kenneth creates funny, playful, and entertaining videos on TikTok, often with his mom. He talks about fashion and beauty trends, being in the LGBTQIA+ community, his family, and more. We got the chance to discuss social media and inclusivity in the beauty industry with him.

    4. @kennethpabon

OPI: Thank you for taking the time to have this chat with us. We just have to tell you how much we enjoy your videos; they are so funny! We can’t get enough of you and your family. Let’s get started! What personal challenges have you faced when trying to express yourself on social media?

KP: When I started on social media, I struggled trying to figure out where and how I fit into the space. Quite honestly, I didn’t see a ton of content or creators that I was able to relate to or felt really represented me. I was stuck on what I ‘should’ wear, or what my style ‘should’ be, rather than embracing what it is. It took me posting consistently to understand that I needed to be myself and dress authentically, which for me is wearing both masculine and feminine clothing! When I began to be myself online, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Instead of forcing myself into a box where I didn't truly fit, I created a space for people like me.

    5. @kennethpabon

OPI: That’s incredibly brave and inspiring. What strengths do you feel the nail industry has in terms of inclusion?

KP: Nail color is a subtle way to express yourself that can make a huge statement and truly impact your confidence! You can paint your nails a bunch of different colors and include designs to show your big personality and interests or you can be lowkey with your nail color and design. It truly is so individualized and allows so much room for creative expression!

    6. @kennethpabon

OPI: So well said! What do you think nail color companies can do to lead the way for an inclusive, meaningful discussion and purposeful change?

KP: Nail color companies need to remember that they are being worn by people of ALL genders and identities. Brands and companies should market in a way that allows kids to see all different people in their campaigns to help them feel included, represented, and comfortable in the product. I know growing up the stigma of nail polish was very feminine and with this connotation changing it is important that companies create products for everyone and keep up.

Thank you for sharing, Kenneth! Make sure to follow @kennethpabon on TikTok for more inspiration.

    7. Davis Burleson (@davisburleson)

In honor of Pride, OPI continues to highlight its favorite LGBTQIA+ influencers while celebrating with the #OPIPowerOfHue summer nail polish collection and our partnership with The Trevor Project. We are delighted to introduce our next LGBTQIA+ content creator, Davis Burleson (@davisburleson), an uplifting voice in the community and host of the viral @whatspoppinshow.

Based in NYC, Davis is a multi-hyphenate who amassed a large following through his TikTok show, where he does rapid-fire interviews with people on the streets of Manhattan. He also shares pieces of his life with lighthearted and fun videos on his personal platform. Covering fashion, pop culture, beauty trends, and being in the LGBTQIA+ community, Davis has built an engaged following with his bubbly personality. We got the chance to talk with him about social media and being an LGBTQIA+ advocate. Check back here or @opi on Instagram for our next and final LGBTQIA+ influencer spotlight.

    8. @davisburleson

OPI: We feel like we are watching a BFF give us the inside scoop on everyday people, fashion, and pop culture when we watch your videos. They are captivating and fun. Let’s get started with our questions! What personal challenges have you faced when trying to express yourself on social media?

DB: When I first started creating content, I struggled with showing my most authentic self because I was still learning who I was. Platforms such as TikTok felt like a safe space because no one from my personal life followed me, and I was able to build a following by just being myself and following my voice. Sometimes the comments aren't always positive but I have a great support system around me - both online and IRL and I definitely feel more confident now to express my creativity.

    9. @davisburleson

OPI: What an accomplishment to find your authentic self while growing your platform into what it is today! It sounds like you have such a healthy, positive perspective on social media. What role do you think YOU can play in creating a safe environment for others to be their authentic self?

DB: As I continue to find my voice on social media, I really hope I'm encouraging others to do the same. One of my biggest goals is to uplift and motivate others whenever I get the opportunity - whether that's connecting with people IRL on my show, in the comments section or even replying to a DM.

    10. @davisburleson

OPI: What a beautiful mission. We have no doubt that you are inspiring so many people! Share an example of how you have advocated for the LGBTQIA+ community.

DB: This pride season, I'm excited to be raising money for the LGBTQIA+ nonprofit, GLAAD. It's so incredibly important to me to raise money for LGBTQIA+ organizations such as GLAAD. I'm so passionate about the work they do.

    11. Make sure to follow @davisburleson on TikTok for more inspiration

OPI: Absolutely, congratulations! Share with us anyone you know or follow who should be noticed for making an impactful change - and tell us why - we’d love to spotlight them!

DB: Dylan Mulvaney (@dylanmulvaney). She is TRULY inspiring others to live authentically and is not afraid to show her journey in real-time. Struggles, triumphs, and all.

Thank you for talking with us Davis! Make sure to follow @davisburleson on TikTok for more inspiration. Check back here or @opi on Instagram for our next and final LGBTQIA+ influencer spotlight.
