    Summer is for pool days, beach reads, and bright, poppy manis, but just like we have to protect our skin, we have to protect our nails from harsh chlorine, salt water, and the sun. To ensure your nails stay healthy and look Instagrammable through Labor Day – because did you really get nail art if you didn’t take a pic? – follow these tips on how to care for your nails all summer long.

    1. SPF it Up This Summer

       

      Just like you apply SPF to your face every day, you should apply it to your hands. Hands quickly get overexposed to the sun when they rest on our steering wheels (looking at you, road trip to Palm Springs), so an easy way to remember this crucial step is when you’re applying your daily SPF to your face, rub in that extra sunscreen on your hands. P.S. Don’t forget your feet when you’re at the beach.

    2. Moisturize

       

      Open toe shoes, running around barefoot, and chlorine can be extremely drying, leaving you with cracked heels (ouch!), and unhappy cuticles. An easy way to prevent this is by using cuticle oil and moisturizing creams that nourish and lock in moisture.     3. Find Some Shade

       

      We know it’s hard to avoid the sun – after all, it’s everywhere – but UV exposure can fade your mani fast. To extend the life of your summer manis and pedis, keep your hands and feet out of the sun as much as possible. Shade is your friend this summer, and so is an umbrella.

    4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

       

      Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. We can’t say it enough. Brittle nails that break and peel can be a sign of dehydration or overexposure to chlorine. Give your nails a drink by upping your water intake, and protect them with a nail strengthener like OPI Nail Envy Original.
