#OPIintheHouse: It All Started with Pink, Finding the Perfect Color for a Classic Kitchen Upgrade

We’re excited to welcome guest blogger Brynne Delerson of The Gathered Home, who is here to show us how she recently experimented with OPI color – not only on her nails, but in her home! Brynne used the OPI Color Palette by Clark+Kensington, available exclusively at Ace, to completely revamp her kitchen using one of her favorite shades, Mimosas for Mr. and Mrs.

Sometimes one perfect color is all it takes to kick off an entire room makeover and set your imagination on fire!

If you had asked me a few months ago if I would ever consider painting my kitchen pink, I would have answered unhesitatingly in the negative. I wasn’t planning on painting the kitchen walls at all. At least, not until I had dealt with the straight-out-of-the-90’s oak cabinets, square tile backsplash, and pinky-beige speckled laminate countertops in a grand, future renovation that’s still in the “dream phase” of funding.

But all of that changed when I came across the OPI Color Palette for Clark+Kensington shade Mimosas for Mr. and Mrs. NLR41.

On a whim, I painted a few test spots of Mimosas for Mr. and Mrs. around the kitchen, up against the oak cabinets, and next to the countertops. To my surprise, the peachy pink color blended perfectly with the warm tones of the oak and seemed to neutralize the pink undertones of the countertop. Best of all, it glowed beautifully in the afternoon sun, like the inside of a seashell!

I chose to use Mimosas for Mr. and Mrs. in a Flat Enamel finish because I love the matte look of flat paint on the walls, but wanted washability, due to inevitable cooking spills and spatters. I did two coats of paint and still managed to finish the kitchen using just one gallon.

Once I had my paint color chosen for the walls, the other ideas just came pouring out: bold textiles, a graphic backsplash and whimsical accessories. I couldn’t believe how much one color inspired an entire room design! I then set to work on the finishing touches - I hung a DIY copper pipe light fixture, sewed my own Roman shade for the window, recovered some vintage faux bamboo chairs I found on Craigslist, used heavy-duty black vinyl to update my tile backsplash with a fun retro pattern, and sprinkled in funky finds from local thrift stores.

Now, I hardly notice the worn countertops or the fact that my appliances don’t match - there are too many other fun things to pay attention to in this room! I absolutely loved the coverage that the OPI Color Palette by Clark+Kensington’s Mimosas for Mr. and Mrs. provided, and I can’t get over how much color changed this space.

My new paint color became the catalyst for a budget makeover that helped me fall in love with my kitchen now, instead of just waiting for some distant future renovation! hope this inspires you to update an area of your home that needs some love. Happy creating!
