OPI Pro: Salon Tips For The Holiday Season

Salon Tips For The Holiday Season
  • Salon Tips For The Holiday Season

Even though the holiday season is looking quite different this year, OPI is here to help you survive the holiday madness. As many are choosing to gather virtually and travel less, we wanted to take a moment to make sure you and your salon can make the most of it by ending the year right!

    1. Manicure Kits for the Holidays

Retail is everything and everywhere, which is why it’s so important to start early by stocking up on all of your client's needs. Try to adapt this into your business model, not only this winter season but throughout the year. How perfect is it that you can top off a service for a client by helping them select a product so they can cross someone off their Christmas list! Making suggestions doesn't mean you’re pushy. Simply lending your educated and professional opinion can close a sale.

DIY gel and dip removal kits or mani/pedi bags that allow clients to safely remove or update their manicures are a great way to boost revenue and keep clients in communication with you even if they can’t make it into the salon just then. Plus, they make great gifts for loved ones! If you haven’t read our check-ins with OPI Educator Julie Le on her experience with creating kits for clients be sure to check them out below!

We also love a good color combo when it comes to client nail kits. Consider creating small duos or trios of DIY color products so that clients (or those on their nice list) can play with designs and fun holiday shade pairings. Encourage clients to share their creations or gift exchanges with you virtually to keep the holiday spirit strong.

    2. Sanitation Guidlines

Above all the holiday trending shades and nail art looks clients will be asking for this season, increased sanitation efforts are something that can truly keep clients coming back long after the chilly months have passed. Be sure to take a moment to determine what sanitation practices you can communicate and make visible to clients to keep them feeling confident in returning to salons. Check out our guide we developed below for more information.

In addition to ensuring your salon is in tip top shape in terms of sanitation, OPI’s guiding principle is “Color is the Answer” so mirror that idea in your salon and set the tone. Whether it’s scent, color, or sound, make it an experience. Setting the tone is crucial to both you and your client. Starting off relaxed makes for a happy client. Happy Client = Happy Nail Pro. Now that’s math that everyone can understand.

    3. Pre-Booking

Consider increasing your visibility to clients virtually at this time. If you’ve just launched a new line, technique, or color, then wear it! What better way to promote all those fabulous services that you offer than by displaying them yourself? Create a virtual look-book or portfolio via trending social media platforms like Instagram Reels or TikTok so that clients can get engaged with the latest inspiration when planning out their manicures or trouble-shooting nail concerns. Customers look to see what you’re wearing and take your advice. You’re a walking testament to current nail trends, so use that to your advantage! Pre-Booking is Your Friend Pre-Book through the end of the year as soon as you can, we encourage virtual booking systems when applicable as well to help keep things organized. It can help you manage your schedule, and more importantly, it locks in your direct income. Clients appreciate pre-booking as much as you do. Pre-booking has the added advantage of allowing clients to stay on track in their beauty regimens.

Another popular idea is to encourage clients to pre-pay along with their booking ahead of time. You can even consider digital gift cards, this way clients may purchase services for others, but they can also be used as a way to pre-pay for their own services as well. Remember to be flexible though and encourage people to feel comfortable postponing should they not feel well or should they come into contact with COVID-19. Be sure to read our check-in with Salon Owner and OPI Global Top Artist Lisa Kern on her advice for helping to navigate tough conversations involving COVID-19 in an open and honest way.
