Our Chills are Multiplying for this New Mommy-To-Be
This mother’s day, we wanted to focus on a new mom and the challenges and exciting moments she’s experienced. We asked Melissa, style influencer of melrodystyle.com and one of our nail models, to let us into her new journey. Read her thoughts on motherhood below.
Who is your inspiration on Mother's Day?
Mother’s Day is a day we set aside to honor the women who raised us. My mom is an incredible mother, woman, and friend who still to this day dedicates her life to her children. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my mother, it is to always be supportive of your children. No matter what, always be there. That’s exactly what my mother did for us growing up. She has always been supportive of our dreams and goals in life and has never questioned or judged our choices. I am very lucky and fortunate to have a mother like her. I only hope to be half the woman and mother she is for my little one on the way.
Are you enjoying your pregnancy?
I’m fully embracing the pregnant life and enjoying every minute - good or bad. It’s part of the process. I’m most looking forward to meeting my little one. I’m excited to see how I will be as a mother. I’m not sure what motherhood is like, but I do hear it is difficult. I’m ready for it, and cannot wait to see what life will be like after our baby arrives. I’m still pinching myself because I cannot believe there is a tiny human growing in my belly. Is this real life?!
What's the best part about being pregnant?
The best part about being pregnant is that everyone caters to you. It’s kind of nice having things done for you even though I’m more than capable of doing things myself. I can always pull the pregnancy card, which is nice. They always said the best feeling is when you feel the baby moving, and everyone who told me that was 100% right. It’s the most incredible feeling, I cannot even explain it.
The only challenging part of being pregnant so far, are the back pains and trouble sleeping. My body pillow has been amazing and has definitely helped me sleep. I would highly recommend purchasing a full body maternity pillow if you are expecting. I got mine from Amazon and I cannot tell you how much it has helped me get some rest. I would also recommend getting a good body oil to prevent stretch marks. I particularly like to use Body Boost Milk & Honey Stretch Mark butter and Jojoba Moisturizer.
What about cravings?
As far as cravings, I haven’t had any specific cravings. I do find myself wanting French toast, but my husband thinks that’s just me being me and has nothing to do with the baby…. He’s probably right so I can’t argue with him on that one.
I’m well into my third trimester now, and we are currently working on getting the nursery room ready for the baby. I’ve also made a list of things I need to get for the hospital bag, along with preparing a sleep schedule that I got from reading Cherish the First Six Weeks book, which I highly recommend any mommy-to-be to read. It’s such a good read and has been helpful for me to prepare for the baby.
This Mother’s Day will be a little more special because I will soon be a mother (cue the tears), and will be joining the mommy tribe before I know it. Although our little man won’t be entering this world until June 12th, I will still be celebrating with my close friends and family. We are over the moon and cannot wait to meet our little one.
