Pride continues, and our rainbow flag still flies wonderfully high. Channeling our brand mission, “Color is the Answer” we’re continuing our month of highlighting nail influencers, nail pros, and salon owners within the LGBTQ community, because there’s a color that’s perfect for each and every one of us, and we believe that color has the power to transform. We’re delighted to introduce Pei Lee, a nail professional originally from Taiwan, but who has called sunny Los Angeles her home for the last two decades. We’re obsessed with her fresh and modern take on nail art, so we caught up with her and got Pei to share her story with us.

Hi Pei! Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background.

I was born and raised in Taiwan, and moved to Los Angeles about 20 years ago.

When did you start becoming passionate about nails? Was there someone in your life who inspired you to start a career in nails?

I have been doing nails for about 10 years now.  When I was in high school, I was interested in art,l so painting nails is like painting a little canvas to me. I’ve always been into art, design, and creative things.

How do you use your nail art as a creative outlet? Any favorite nail art that you’ve created?

Creating nail art helps me see world  differently. For example, when I see a painting or a colorful shirt or patterns, I will take that inspiration and somehow make it to a nail art. My favorite type nail art is always geometric!

Who’s your nail inspiration and/or who is your favorite nail artist?

Man!! There are so many talented artists out there my absolutely favorites are @nailedbycristy, @madnails, @spifster, @topknotnails, and @nailthoughts!

How do you describe your style and how do your nails fit into that?

I express myself through my style. I wouldn’t say I have a particular style and I don’t have a favorite color. It all goes with how I feel when I wake up in the morning, the same thing with my nails. I often have two different colors and designs on my hands.

What would you tell your younger, less confident self? What hurdles did you have to jump to work towards your career?

I would tell my younger self to not be afraid to be who you are and be true to yourself. Don’t worry about what others say about you, just focus on you and the things that make you happy.

What hurdles I have to overcome? I would say it is my speaking because English is my second language. For the longest time I hesitated to take a job or an opportunity because I didn’t think I spoke English well, but at the end, I realized that the fear was all in my head.
