What Makes Infinite Shine Different Than Regular Lacquer?

Keep reading to learn more about the difference between regular lacquer and OPI’s hybrid system, OPI Infinite Shine. This isn’t your mother’s nail polish!

What Makes Infinite Shine Different Than Regular Lacquer?

Innovations in nail polish over the years have all aimed to improve wearability, coverage, consistency, and overall performance. While formulas have definitely improved since the 1920s, nail polish has more recently undergone an evolution with the introduction of ingredients from gel products. These new “hybrid” systems deliver higher shine and up to 10 days of wear that dries or “cures” in normal light.

OPI Nail Lacquer is formulated using superior ingredients including a film-forming agent, plasticizers, solvents, and colouring agents to provide a high-quality professional service with a fast 2-coat application that delivers smooth, even wear.

Known for exceptional color payoff and witty names, OPI Nail Lacquer is the number-one salon brand worldwide. When used in a professional service, Nail Lacquer color can last up to 7 days. OPI Nail Lacquer is a great option for those who like to change their color often and enjoy experimenting with color.

OPI Pro Tip: A professional service consists of proper natural nail prep, a base coat, two colour coats, and a top coat application. Removal is simple and requires a nail wipe and regular lacquer remover.

OPI Infinite Shine

OPI Infinite Shine

The OPI Infinite Shine formula is a blend of lacquer and gel technology that creates a long-lasting finish after exposure to ambient light. OPI Infinite Shine offers longer wear for those who like the look of gels, but not necessarily the salon time and effort involving application and removal.

The key ingredients in most hybrid systems include ambient light-curing oligomers and photoinitiators:

  • Oligomers: Short chains of monomers that react or “cure” when exposed to light to form tough, durable, shiny coatings. Originally used in traditional or hard gel formulas, certain oligomers are now being added to nail polish creating a new “hybrid” category of polish that lasts longer and delivers high, long-lasting shine.

  • Photoinitiators: A type of material that initiates a reaction when paired with oligomers and exposed to a specific type of light. In hybrid systems, the photoinitiator is chosen to react under visible light.

When used as a three-step system, OPI Infinite Shine delivers up to 11 days of gel-like colour and shine. It is recommended to use all three products together to get maximum results.
