Holiday Collection Pro Spotlight: Marisa Carmichael
Meet Marisa Carmichael also known as nail art queen @marisacarmichael on Instagram. We took the time to speak with Marisa on all things nails, from her favorites in the OPI Holiday Shine Bright Collection, to how she's navigating COVID-19 and her Halloween nail art plans.
OPI: You’ve been one of our go-to nail artists for quite some time now. What do you love about working with OPI?
MC: OPI is an iconic brand! You can be anywhere in the world and someone can tell you their favorite shade. The colors are highly pigmented, the bottle is comfortable to hold and the brush makes for easy application. The company is also so supportive of nail professionals.
OPI: You recently helped bring our holiday nail art looks to life - what do you think of the new Shine Bright Holiday collection?
MC: There is a color for every festivity. There are some unexpected colors for a holiday season that I love. It’s nice to mix it up.
OPI: What nail trends do you expect to see this upcoming holiday season?
I love rich creme colors for fall. Deep browns, reds and oranges. I love a very thin lined French tip in contrasting colors.
OPI: COVID-19 has significantly impacted the nail industry. Do you have any advice you’d like to give to nail artists that are struggling?
I have spent time working on my kit, making sure every piece has been sanitized and disinfected, and that everything that can be one use and disposable. I made mini kits that can be used on set when you have multiple models to ensure there is no chance for cross-contamination. It’s also a good time to get your business side in order, clean up your website, work on creating content, and practicing new looks.
OPI: What do you like most about our latest collection? (shades, formula, glitters, crystals etc.)
I love the subtle glitter polishes and the pearlescent pinks.
OPI: The collection features three special glitters. Do you have any tips or tricks you use when applying glitters?
I always set my glitter and stones into the last coat of color before curing and then applying top coat.
OPI: The holidays are going to look different this year. How are you going to bring a bit of normalcy to the season?
I’m guessing there will be a lot of holiday-themed FaceTime parties.
OPI: Halloween is around the corner. What nail art looks are you wearing this year? How are you celebrating?
Orange gradient nails. I love a goth witchy nail, a deep burgundy stiletto or a blood red.
OPI: October 11th was World Mental Health day. How do you prioritize your mental health in such an uncommon time?
For me it’s been about being physically active and trying not to watch the news so much. Sometimes it’s as simple as getting away from the screens and going for a walk around the block, it can change your whole outlook.
